Emory University Research Specialist in atlanta, Georgia


Full-time one-year limited position to assist with research projects in a laboratory located at the Emory Vaccine Center with a focus on infectious disease research.

  • The candidate will work with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows on multiple projects using state of the art technologies for various molecular biology, immunology and microbiology assays. It’s a great opportunity to learn essential skills in designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and working with animals (mice).

  • Developing an independent project that aligns with the group’s research goals is strongly encouraged. Other duties may include assisting with ordering of supplies, laboratory organization, inventories and maintenance, assistance with Biosafety and IACUC protocol writing and submission.

  • Some experience in basic molecular biology, immunology and microbiology techniques and cell culture is preferred, and willingness to work with mice is desirable.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe is required. Additional computer skills, including familiarity with website software is a plus.

  • The individual is expected to work both independently as well as part of a team and have good communication and trouble-shooting skills.


  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.

  • Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.

  • May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.

  • Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.

  • Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.

  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.


  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.


  • Good sense of humor and ability to integrate into a collegial and interactive lab environment.
