JOB DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator. May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation. Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases. Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

Additonal Details

The laboratory of Dr. Young Sup Yoon in the Division of Cardiology is seeking a Research Specialist with an interest and background in stem cell research and biomedical engineering. The major interest of the Yoon lab is to use stem cell technology to treat various cardiovascular diseases such as peripheral vascular disease, cardiac diseases, lymphedema, diabetic neuropathy. To achieve this, the Yoon lab has developed and used target cells like endothelial cells, cardiomyocytes, or other angiogenic cells for cardiovascular repair.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous stem cell research experience (Endothelial cell, cardiomyocytes, smooth muscle cells differentiation)

  2. Molecular work: RNA isolation, Realtime RT-PCR, Genotyping, CHIP-seq or Western blotting

  3. Cell work: human PSC maintenance, Flow cytometry analysis, or confocal microscopy experience

  4. Animal work: Animal surgical experience or animal handling experience such as injection, behavior tests and tissue isolation

  5. Other lab maintenance work like cleaning, ordering and record keeping
