JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, advises Emory University business units regarding compliance with laws and regulations, with a focus on laws/regulations governing basic, animal, and human subjects' research, including the Common Rule, Animal Welfare Act, and laws related to research safety and the use of controlled substances/dangerous drugs in research. Works in cooperation with the Director of Privacy Initiatives and Assistant Director, Compliance and Ethics Program. Serves as a resource to compliance committees such as the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Biosafety Committee, Radiation Control Council and Institutional Review Board, as well as to other Emory units with research compliance related duties. Guides business units in the development of appropriate policies, processes and compliance tools and procedures. Participates in the performance of compliance reviews, audits and investigations. Assists in the development of educational materials and programs. Keeps abreast of changes in laws and regulations. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree OR bachelor's degree and clinical licensure. Five years of legal and/or compliance work experience. Prior work experience in a research compliance or corporate compliance setting is preferred. Familiarity with the regulatory framework governing the conduct of research and/or administrative operations at an academic institution, including familiarity with at least some of the following laws and regulations: HIPAA, Common Rule, FDA regulations, Animal Welfare Act, and/or federal and state laws governing the use of controlled substance and/or dangerous drugs in research. Strong written communication skills.
