Emory Healthcare Cardiac Device Technician, Heart Transplant Services, 7:30a-4p in Atlanta, Georgia


JOB DESCRIPTION: Provide patient care activities to support patients with Arrhythmia Devices or Ventricular Assist Devices. Support for Arrhythmia devices will be done under the direction of a RN or Arrhythmia Device Engineer. Responsibilities include analyzing and reprogramming various brands of pacemakers and defibrillators, analyzing heart rhythms on the telephone, and remote transmissions. Analyzes and recommends process and quality improvements and additional staff development. Support for long term Ventricular Assist Devices will be done under the direction of the VAD Technician. Functions include post implantation equipment checks, data download and device adjustments, assisting with patient transport, equipment inventory, ambulating patients, and assistance in the OR.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred. Successful completion of a nursing tech or cardiovascular technologist program or equivalent is required. Must have taken a complex rhythm recognition class. Successful completion of a full Cardiac Device Educational Program (such as Arrhythmia Technologies Institute or PrepMD) OR two years patient care experience, including some exposure to implantable cardiac devices to include 2 years recent complex arrhythmia recognition. Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from an accredited school may be considered in lieu of clinical training and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
